When I wrote the novel, I always saw it as a movie, so it made sense to create a soundtrack – therefore, it wasn’t long into the first draft when I began to record ‘J.’: The Soundtrack to the Novel, and it was composed, completed, mixed and mastered before even the story itself was finished.

As the novel began to be continually rewritten, these pieces helped me reevoke the scenes in my head, bringing with them new elements that were not included within the first few rewrites and revisions.

The score was meant to be paired with the book, however, I found that it also works well on its own and can create interesting textures and ambience when listening in a non-reading headspace.
